Instructions for participants:
I asked each participant to send me a photo they took, without specifying the subject of these photos. I also informed them that it would be for a "project", but not revealing any further details. This method of crowd sourcing would probably be classified as an opaque process, while the assignment is specific about what is required of them, which is a photo that they took, while the contents of these photos are left open ended. Some participants sent me more than one photo, which I have also included in the collaged image. After collecting a sufficient number of photos, I used Photoshop to lay out a grid within a square canvas. Then, I selected small square segments from the collected photos and randomly arranged them within this grid, resulting in this final mosaic of photographic fragments.
